Growatt APX HV US Battery review
A high-voltage modular battery family. The US suffix and inverter pairing are essential parts of the specification.

Our take
APX HV US is a reasonable candidate for a Growatt storage proposal when the exact battery and inverter pairing is documented. The modular nominal capacity range offers useful sizing choices. The main buying risk is comparing the wrong product family: Growatt sells several batteries and inverters, and a shared brand does not make their voltage systems interchangeable.
APX HV US Battery at a glance
Check the model in your quote against these published details.
| Nominal capacity range | 5–30 kWh [1] |
|---|---|
| Battery family | APX high-voltage US [1] |
| Enclosure | IP66; siting and operating requirements apply [1] |
| Inverter pairing | Check the US manual and matching power module [2] |
Capacity, continuous output and peak output measure different things. Compare like-for-like values for the complete configuration.
What is included in the system?
APX modules form a high-voltage battery system with the corresponding control or power module. A compatible inverter then converts that energy for household use. The installer should name all of those parts. A module count without the controller and inverter model does not describe a working storage installation.
Conceptual energy flow. The equipment and connections depend on the installation.
What can it power during an outage?
The selected inverter, battery arrangement and switching equipment determine outage capability. Ask for usable energy and battery-only AC output as separate values. A nominal capacity figure alone cannot establish runtime, and the largest inverter rating may require a particular battery configuration. Request the load assessment behind the proposal.
A high power rating does not guarantee a long runtime. Backup duration also depends on charge level, reserve settings, appliance use and available solar.
Existing solar and future expansion
Adding storage to a home with panels
A Growatt solar inverter already on the wall is not automatically compatible with APX HV US. The US manual describes specific equipment pairings. Have the installer identify whether the existing inverter remains, what changes are required and how solar behaves during a grid outage. Do not substitute a manual for a similarly named international inverter.
Planning for more capacity
Discuss expansion using the permitted US module and power-module combinations. More storage may require additional equipment or commissioning, even when the modules look stackable. Record the initial and intended final configurations. Ask whether the upgrade changes the battery’s discharge capability, the inverter output or primarily the duration of backup.
The advantages and the trade-offs
Reasons to shortlist it
- Published nominal capacity range from 5 to 30 kWh.
- Modular high-voltage battery architecture.
- US-specific installation documentation.
What to weigh up
- Nominal capacity is not necessarily the usable energy available to the home.
- Requires the matching power module and compatible inverter.
- APX HV US should not be confused with low-voltage or international Growatt batteries.
Warranty, monitoring and support
Keep the model-specific US warranty, installation record and monitoring credentials. Battery, inverter and workmanship coverage are separate questions. Ask which party supports the complete pairing and who handles a communications fault. Firmware and configuration records are useful when adding modules or replacing a component later.
A useful handover includes your equipment schedule, the applicable warranty documents, homeowner access to monitoring and a named service contact. Ask the installer to demonstrate the operating mode you are buying.
What affects the installed cost?
Compare the complete APX system, including the power module, compatible inverter, backup controls and electrical work. A per-module price leaves out essential equipment. If the project replaces an existing solar inverter, show that as a separate line so the cost of storage is not confused with a wider solar upgrade.
| Equipment | Battery quantity, inverter, gateway or transfer equipment and mounting |
|---|---|
| Electrical work | Panel changes, cable routes, protection and backed-up circuits |
| Delivery | Permits, installation, commissioning and monitoring handover |
| Aftercare | Workmanship cover, diagnostic visits and replacement labor |
Is APX HV US Battery right for your home?
Consider APX HV US when a supported Growatt pairing suits the project and the installer can explain the exact configuration. It is less useful to compare “Growatt battery” quotes without model codes. Resolve the equipment identity first, then compare usable storage, output, scope and service.

Your questions, answered
Is the advertised capacity all usable energy?
The product range is described using nominal capacity. Ask for usable energy and operating limits for the final configuration.
Can any Growatt inverter use APX HV US?
No blanket compatibility claim is appropriate. Check the precise US inverter and battery power-module pairing.
Can I use a low-voltage battery instead?
That would be a different design. Battery voltage families are not interchangeable simply because the manufacturer is the same.
Sources and review method
This is a research-based assessment of published manufacturer information, not a hands-on laboratory test or an owner-review average. Our judgments explain the buying implications of the equipment and its limitations. We do not assign star ratings, invent installation prices or infer local installer availability from a product page.
Check the current US model, configuration and warranty before ordering. Where regional compatibility or terms could not be established, we say so in the review. Shortlist Solar is an installer referral service; a quote request is optional and subject to participating-installer availability.
